📚: Cuervo, Marco Mejía T

I only made it past the first three chapters of Cuervo. This is not a serious book.

It’s very poorly written, full of misplaced commas and ungrammatical sentences —ironic in a fictionalized biography of a celebrated philologist. The writing is cheap and confused.

Look at this description of a vote (selecting López, Cuervo or Gori):

En el salón reina el asedio. Acompañada por la tensión del ambiente se dio inicio a la primera votación. López uno, López dos, López tres, López cuatro… Cuervo uno, Cuervo dos… Gori Uno [sic.]… López cinco… Cuervo tres, Cuervo cuatro… López seis, López siete, López ocho… Cuervo cinco, Cuervo seis, Cuervo siete… López nueve, López diez… Cuervo ocho, Cuervo nueve, Cuervo diez…

The tallying keeps going with each individual vote, with some text interspersed, until we finally get to:

Cuervo treinta y seis, Cuervo treinta y siete… López treinta y seis, López treinta y siete. La última papeleta. La definitiva. López….no…..Cuervo…. no… Gori… diez.

Nevermind the sequences of five consecutive periods and the inconsistent use of spaces (or capitalization)— even with that fixed, this is very poor writing.
